Volgens Bloomberg communiceren Peter Praet en Benoit Coeure, respectievelijk Mario Draghi's rechter- en linkerhand, tegenstrijdig over de intenties van de ECB. Beide zijn op hun hoede over hoe de markten zullen reageren op de eerste stap van de ECB om de stimulans te verminderen, maar terwijl Praet de huidige ultralagerentes wil behouden, waarschuwt Coeure dat het te langzaam afbouwen uiteindelijk tot een grotere schok kan leiden
“ECB communications have always been more of a cacophony than a concerto,” said Richard Barwell, an economist at BNP Paribas in London. This “perfectly illustrates the split within the council. Coeure wants to prepare the market for an inevitable exit whilst Praet is busy pointing out that the conditions for exit have not been met.”
